THERAPY FOR EAR PROBLEMS
Tinnitus, a persistent sensation of “ringing” in the ears which causes the perception of sound in one or both ears or in the head in the absence of any external cause or stimuli. It is generally referred to as "ringing in the ears", some affected people hear hissing, roaring, whistling, chirping, or clicking. The ringing can be intermittent or constant-with single or multiple tones-and its perceived volume can range from subtle to shattering. Tinnitus or ringing of the ear appears generally after the age of 60 is called senile deafness. It gradually increases with age and can lead to complete deafness. Old age is considered as the chief cause of senile deafness. People exposed to loud noise during earlier years of life or due to their occupations are more prone to suffer from Tinnitus Degenerative changes in the nervous system may also increase the possibility of deafness.In Ayurveda Tinnitus is referred to as "Karnanada or Pranada ". According to Ayurveda, tinnitus is not a disease but a symptom of a disturbance of prana vayu. Vitiation of Vata dosha is the main reason for causing tinnitus. When errant Vata overflows colon, it circulates throughout the body and find its site of deposition (khavaigunya) in the sound carrying channels of the head, and the individual perceives various types of sound; In some cases vitiated kapha blocks the pathway of Vata because of which Vata fails to conduct the sound waves. In such cases the hearing capacity of the person goes on reducing gradually and may be lost completely.
Tinnitus can be caused due to lack of adequate sleep, stress, excessive fasting, excessive exercise, excessive consumption of difficult-to-digest food, excessive use of medicines or consumption of foods of bitter taste are some of the reasons for tinnitus. In conventional modern treatment there is no cure available and generally patients are advised to “live with the disorder”, habituation and lifestyle changes. In most cases this creates an isolation and frustration in the patients. Few people also undergo severe phycological trauma due to this.
